In 2003, the idea emerged to organize fishing holidays in Suriname. After a very long and intensive preparation, Fishing Adventure Suriname was officially founded in 2006. During the preparation period, we searched for the best boats for the activities. An aluminum boat was the most obvious choice to use. Also due to the fact that we do not operate from one single location but throughout the whole country, we faced several problems, such as:

1. Transportation by car. We fish with a maximum of 2 people per boat. This means we should be able to transport a minimum of 3 boats. Transporting 3 aluminum boats would also require 3 adapted cars. This would raise the tour costs and efforts during the tour too much.
2. Transport by airplane. Because many of our tours are located at locations which are only accessible by airplane, this would mean we would have to make use of locally made wooden canoes on location, as aluminum boats cannot be transported by airplane. The wooden canoes were not a good alternative because they were too big, bulky, heavy, and instable for our activities.
3. Putting the boats in the water. It´s not possible to lay aluminum boats in the water at all locations. And we especially want to go to uninhabited places, and those usually don´t have docks.
4. Vulnerability. Because we go to places with many obstacles in the water, such as tree trunks, or rocks, an aluminum boat would be too vulnerable.
5. Sailing features. Because we would be navigating different kinds of water bodies, we would also need different types of aluminum boats. We would need a V hull model for the larger water bodies, and a flat hull model for shallow waters.
6. Weight. Because we navigate on untouched waters, we regularly come across obstacles such as fallen trees, waterfalls which sometimes have to be avoided. An aluminum boat is too heavy to hoist over, through, or around obstacles easily.

We have searched for alternatives, and soon ended up with the PortaBote. This is the best boat for our activities.

1. Transport by car. The Portabote is easy to transport. We transport the 3 boats with 1 car. This saves a lot of effort and money, which results in that we can offer an attractive price.
2. Transport by airplane. We can take the PortaBote to places by airplane where we could not have taken an aluminum boat.
3. Putting the boats in the water. We can go fishing with the PortaBote wherever we want. Also the hard-to-reach waters are no problem for us.
4. Vulnerability. The PortaBote is very sound, and a collision with a rock or tree trunk is not a problem anymore.
5. Sailing features. The PortaBote can be used anywhere, so we don´t have to purchase different kinds of boats for different locations.
6. Weight. It is easy to lift the PortaBote over, through or around obstacles, due to its light weight.

Naturally we were very excited, but it seemed too good to be true. We ordered two boats and have tested them extensively in the most extreme situations. The PortaBote indeed fulfilled all expectations, and more. We did not want anything else. Other people´s reactions were also astounding. Because of this, we now are, next to our fishing activities, also distributor of the PortaBote in the Amazon basin. This includes: Suriname, Brazil, Guyana and French Guiana. We started this in the beginning of 2007. Due to our great success with the PortaBote, we started extending our sale at the end of 2007 to the whole of South America and the Caribbean. Also due to this, we can offer a better service to our customers and dealers, and very sharp prices.
